Bears rally for late win
Brandon Lupo capped a late Northern Colorado rally with a three-set win over Montana State's Niklas Brandes, giving the Bears a 4-3 win over MSU in Bozeman on Sunday.
MSU led 3-1 at one point, but wins by Ben Gendron and Lupo spurred UNC to the win. Prithiv Sivasubramaniam, Alberto Fuentes and Markus Schleuter earned singles wins for the Bobcats, while Fuentes and Sivasubramaniam teamed for a doubles victory, although the Bears took the doubles point.
“I'm proud of how our guys competed all year, and they fought hard today,” said MSU coach Mike Phillips. “Our guys kept fighting today, and doing their best.”
Montana State fell to 7-11 on the season, 2-4 in Big Sky play, while Northern Colorado is 6-8 overall, 2-6 in the league. MSU finishes its season next weekend with a home match Friday against Eastern Washington and a trip to Missoula on Sunday.
