Confident, experienced group looking for improvement at Ocotillo
After several weeks of preparation, Montana State returns to Chandler, Ariz. one more time to face off in the Big Sky Conference Golf Championship, April 22-24, at Ocotillo Golf Resort. With the previous two tournaments taking place at Ocotillo, the Bobcats feel more prepared than ever.
“We had a good warm-up with the MSU Spring Invite and the Cowgirl Classic at Ocotillo,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “We know what clubs we'll be hitting and the shots that need to happen. Each player is ready and feeling confident that each of them can go low on this course.”
Montana State's quintet of competitors is ready for the 6,162 yard, par 72 course. Paige Crawford, Molly Dorans, Leslie McGetrick, Katie Michunovich and Kelly O'Brien have led the Bobcats throughout the 2011-12 season and will look to improve from their sixth place finish in 2011.
Last year, Portland State took the conference title, with the Vikings' Britney Yada earning the individual championship. McGetrick was Montana State's highest finisher, taking 12th overall.
“We made a lot of birdies last time out and we need to continue down that path for the conference tournament,” Basye said. “We definitely need to peak this weekend. It's time.”
The tournament begins Sunday, April 22 with one round of 18 holes each day. Tee time is at 6:30 a.m. all three days and live results will be available at www.golfstat.com.
