Weather conditions damper second round but Bobcats show improvement.
Montana State Women's Golf competed at the Gonzaga Spring Individual on Sunday. Two rounds of 18 were slated but only one was completed at Liberty Lake Golf Course due to cold and rainy conditions. (Results)
Seven Bobcats played the 6,064-yard, par 70 course in the unscored tournament. Tournament host Gonzaga was also joined by British Columbus, Eastern Washington, Montana and Community Colleges of Spokane.
Molly Dorans was the highest finisher for MSU, tying for third with a score of 77 (+7). Alice Kim of Gonzaga was the overall medalist, carding a 74 (+3).
Katie Michunovich came in ninth with 79 (+9), with teammate Leslie McGetrick behind her in 12th (80). Melissa Hultstrand finished with 82 (+12), good enough for 16th place. Paige Crawford and Kelly O'Brien both finished in 19th with 83. Chelsea Ray rounded out the Bobcat golfers in 24th, carding 86 (+16).
“We played in super tough conditions today,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “I'm very proud of how they handled themselves. This is another tournament, giving us another chance to learn and our confidence is gaining some serious ground.”
Montana State will get out of a finicky Bozeman spring and head to Chandler, Ariz. to face Weber State on Saturday, April 7 as a warm-up match before the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic April 9-11, also in Chandler. Both will take place at Ocotillo Golf Course.
