MSU Opens Strong at Red Rocks Invitational

‘Cats rally on second day to finish seventh in spring opener
Bobcat Women's Golf opened up the 2012 spring slate with a seventh place finish at the Red Rocks Invitational on Sunday at Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz. At the close of the opening 18 holes, the 'Cats were in ninth place with 324 (+36). MSU carded a 636 (+60), improving by 12 strokes from the first day of the tournament. (Day 2 Results)
Eastern Michigan was team champion, after leading both days. EMU completed 36 holes with a score of 603 (+27).
Leslie McGetrick was the Bobcats' leader, tying for ninth with 153 (74-79). She was in sole possession of third place after the first 18 holes. Molly Dorans was the next highest finisher, placing 24th seeing a four-stroke drop from her first day score of 81. Overall, Dorans finished with 158 (81-77).
Melissa Hultstrand placed 42nd with 162 (84-78), showing much improvement on day two. Paige Crawford, one of MSU's leaders from the fall season, came in 50th with 163 (85-78), also with a better second round.
Rounding out the Bobcats was Kelly O'Brien who came in 78th with 170 (86-84).
In 2011, placed eighth overall with 654 and McGetrick was the team's top finisher in sixth place, carding a 155 (78-77).
“I'm happy with today's play,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “I asked them each for a couple strokes better and they delivered! It was a good showing for two rounds after being indoors for two months. We still have plenty of work to do but I see lots of positive things ahead.”
Montana State returns to Bozeman for the week, before traveling to Honolulu on March 13-14, for the Dr. Donnis Invitational hosted by Hawaii at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
