Golfers post best collective round at Cougar Cup
Bobcat Women's Golf used the momentum from the previous days' play to finish in 11th place at the Cougar Cup, hosted by Washington State. The three-round tournament took place at Palouse Ridge Golf Course, in Pullman, Wash.,a 6,239 yard, par-72 course.
MSU's final round of 306 ranked eighth on the day and helped maintained their position in 11th overall with a combined score of 954 (338-310-306). Washington retained their day one lead for the team title after carding an 890 (309-285-296).
For the five Big Sky Conference schools in attendance, Sacramento State was the highest finisher of the match in seventh place (940).
Stanford's Sally Watson was the overall medalist with 220 (-2).
It was the most consistent rounds of 18 for the Bobcats thus far in the 2011-12 season. Paige Crawford was the top MSU finisher for the second week in a row. Crawford finished with a 234 (79-80-75). Melissa Hulstrand had the best score of the day for the Bobcats with a 73. She finished 41st overall at 236. Kelly O'Brien and Molly Dorans finished one stroke away from each other at 243 (86-78-79) and 244 (87-78-79), respectively. Leslie McGetrick placed 73rd with 249 (91-77-81). Katie Michunovich competed individually and landed in 70th with 248 (85-83-80).
“This was our best day as a team,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “We are starting to play with confidence and realizing our strengths. This should give us a big boost headed into the next tournament.”
Montana State will take a break from competition until Saturday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Palm Desert, Calif. for the Cowgirl Desert Invitational hosted by Wyoming at the Classic Club.
