Bobcats struggle with bunkers on the final day
MSU Women's Golf closed out the 2011-12 season opener with a 20th place finish at the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. The two-day event, hosted by Gonzaga featured 22 programs at the Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley, Idaho. (Individual Results | Team Results | Combined Results)
Montana State shot a two-day total of 968 (320-318-330), with the first 36 holes being played on the opening day at the 6,111 yard, par 72 course. Washington State was the team champion, carding 913 (307-298-308). Seattle's Caitlin McCleary was the medalist both days finishing even at 216 (70-70-76).
Sophomore Paige Crawford led the 'Cats with an 18th place finish, carding 232 (79-75-78). Leslie McGetrick finished at 243 (80th), with her best round at +7. Molly Dorans, who came in 101st, also had a +7 round in the opening 18 holes. Kelly O'Brien and Melissa Hulstrands finished 101st and 108th, respectively.
“We had a lot of trouble in the bunkers today but there were huge positives in the number of birdies we had,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “It feels good to have this first tournament under our belt and now we can work on playing with more confidence and trust our game.”
The Bobcats return to the course on Monday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Pullman, Wa. for the Cougar Cup, hosted by Washington State. The tournament will be held at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
