Idaho State, Portland State visit Bozeman this weekend
The race for the Big Sky Conference men's tennis tournament heats up this weekend, when Montana State hosts Idaho State and Portland State in league action. The Bobcats host ISU at 10 am Friday in the Anderson Bobcat Tennis Center, prior to the MSU women's match against ISU, then battle Portland State on Saturday at 10 am.
The Bobcats occupy fourth place in the Big Sky at 2-1, with the top four squads advancing to the conference tournament (Bozeman, April 23-24). MSU is a half-match behind NAU and Weber State, with Portland State (2-3) and Idaho State (0-4) each chasing the Bobcats. With difficult matches remaining against league-leading Sacramento State and Montana, who beat the Cats in a non-league match last month, MSU's weekend tilts against PSU and the Bengals become crucial to the team's post-season hopes.
While MSU's no. one singles player Pawel Turzanski leads the Bobcats, Fletcher Keyes carries MSU's top record at 8-7 into no. two singles competition this weekend, while no. three player Alberto Fuentes enters weekend competition at 8-8.
The Bobcats enter weekend play with a cumulative 37-58 record in singles matches, but stand 19-29 in doubles play on the season. Keyes and Turzanski team up at the top of the ladder, owning a 6-8 mark at the no. one doubles spot.
