Bobcat Golf Ready to Warm Up the 2011 season

While a snowy winter continues in Bozeman, the Montana State Women's Golf team will travel to Sedona, Ariz. to kick off the 2011 spring campaign. On Friday, Feb. 25, MSU will play in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona. The 20-team Invitational will take place at Oakcreek Country Club and features schools from all over the country.

The two-day invite was originally slated for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27, it was bumped to Feb. 25-26, due to cold conditions forecasted for Sedona.

MSU returns sophomore Kelly O'Brien, whose fall average was 78, and will be expected to be a great asset for the Bobcats. Also returning for the Blue & Gold is sophomore Michelle Hulstrand. After an illness-plagued summer and fall, she is looking to rebound on the course.

“The first tournament is always a challenge,” said head coach Leslie Spalding, in her fifth season at MSU. “But we've worked on a lot of exciting things and this will definitely be the first step toward Big Sky Championships in April.”

Last year, MSU finished in 14^th place overall. Molly Dorans, Hulstrand, Leslie McGetrick, and O'Brien were the highest finishers for MSU, tying for 44^th overall with a score of 83 (11-ver)

Oakcreek Country Club is a par 72, 18-hole championship course (6,084 yards).

Following the Red Rocks Invitational, Montana State will travel to Tampa, Fla. to participate in the NIU Snowbird, Mar. 17-18, hosted by Northern Illinois at Pebblecreek Golf Club.
