Norah Seidl leads Bobcats in sixth place
THE WOODLANDS, Texas --- Norah Seidl concluded the opening day of the Texas Golf Throwdown in sixth place, highlighted by a hole-in-one in the second round of play, as the Bobcats opened competition at The Woodlands Country Club on Monday.
Seidl, who is competing individually in The Woodlands, aced the par-3 eighth hole on her second trip around the course and finished her day 1-over 146. As a team, the Bobcats sit in 14th with a 311 in the first round and a 301 through 16 holes in round two after play was suspended late in the second round due to darkness.
"Very tough day out there for our five," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "Norah had a hole-in-one and is playing great – super proud of her. Golf is hard, and it'll knock you down very quickly. We have to learn from the day and tee it up tomorrow and try to pick up some strokes. We learn from the good and the bad. Today wasn't awesome, so we learn and keep fighting. They will recover and learn because that's who they are. Norah has put herself in a great position for a good finish. She will battle it out tomorrow."
Seidl carded a 72 and a 74 individually in her two rounds in The Woodlands. She opened her day with a birdie on No. 18 and carded five-straight pars on Nos. 1 through five. After two pars and two bogeys to finish off the front nine, she posted a bogey-free final seven holes, highlighted by birdies on Nos. 11 and 14, to finish the round at an even-par 72. In round two, Seidl again birdied on No 18 and carded pars on holes 1 through 7. Then on the par-3 eighth hole, she sunk a 160-yard hole-in-one with her 7 iron, carding the Bobcats' first ace of the season. Seidl birdied again on No. 11 and finished the round with a 3-over 75 to bring her total score for the day to 1-over 146.
On the team side, the Bobcats counted a 75 from Heinz, a pair of 77s from Wilson and Greeny, and an 82 by Montoya to finish the opening round of the day tied for seventh. Following a pair of bogeys on Nos. 15 and 16, Heinz carded pars on five of her final six holes to count the Bobcats' best score in the morning. Wilson posted birdies on holes 9 and 11 and strung together five-straight pars to close the back nine.
