Bobcats travel to The Woodlands, Texas, for first stroke-play tournament of the spring
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State women's golf team is set for its first stroke-play tournament of the spring, competing in the Texas Golf Throwdown, hosted by Sam Houston State, on Monday and Tuesday.
The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,311-yard The Woodlands Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. Both days will tee off in a 7:30 a.m. MT shotgun start, with the first day consisting of 36 continuous holes and the second day featuring the third and final round.
"This is a new tournament for us, and we couldn't be more excited to see the Woodlands CC and some new teams," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "The weather looks pretty good, so just being able to get outside and see balls in the air is huge – some extra work around the greens and another opportunity to compete in the blue and gold. This is a quick turnaround, but, again, we're going to make every day we have outside and playing a golf course matter! This will be a good test of competition for our players; we are anxious to keep working on our games."
Golfers from 15 teams are set to tee off in Texas on Monday, including 14 programs competing for a team score. The field includes Austin Peay, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee, Montana State, Murray State, Nebraska, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, St. Thomas, Tarleton State, Texas State, and UT Arlington. Individual golfers from No. 6 Texas A&M will also compete at the tournament.
The Bobcats are fresh off a second-place finish at Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, Calif., where they competed on Feb. 9-11. The Bobcats defeated Wyoming, 3.5-1.5, in the opening round and Washington State, 4-1, in the semifinals before matching Nevada, 2.5-2.5 in the championship, which the Wolf Pack took in a tiebreaker. Norah Seidl led the way with three match wins in the tournament, Lauren Greeny picked up two wins and a tie, and Eva Heinz earned two victories in strong showings for the Cats.
In Texas, Greeny will lead off the Bobcats in the No. 1 slot while Heinz, Maddie Montoya, Sailor Graham, and Ashleigh Wilson will round out the Bobcats' lineup. Seidl will compete as an individual as six Bobcats make the trip to The Woodlands.
This week will mark the Bobcats' first time competing in the Texas Golf Throwdown.
Montana State will tee off from holes No. 5 through 7 in a 7:30 a.m. MT shotgun start on Monday while Seidl will start from No. 18. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
