Hailey Coey sets new triple jump record, women’s 4x400m team obliterates school record
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- Hailey Coey continued her record-setting weekend with a new school record in the triple jump, and the women's 4x400-meter relay team shattered the program record by nearly 1.5 seconds to highlight the final day of the Bobcat Challenge on Saturday.
Coey posted a winning mark of 12.75 meters/41 feet, 10.00 inches to set her second school record in as many days while the women's 4x400m team of Tilde Bjerager, Caroline Hawkes, Peyton Garrison, and Giulia Gandolfi clocked a converted time of 3:36.91 to move to 16th in the NCAA this season. Those performances made up two of the Bobcats' six event victories on Saturday. Montana State also rewrote the record books with five improvements to the program top-10 list at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center.
"It was great to get the 2026 competition started hosting in the new facility over the last two days," Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese said. "Hailey Coey stole the show again in the triple jump. In a breakthrough performance in the triple jump, she extended her school record by a significant amount. It was made more special with her teammate, Tamia Ramos, also leaping over the previous school record. To finish off the competition, the women's 4x400 relay took the lead early, ran away with it, and took a chunk off the program record. To have such a program-record performance so early in the season was a huge boost to the team and especially the sprinters."
Coey and Ramos both surpassed Coey's previous school-record mark of 12.40m/40-8.25 to complete a 1-2 finish in the triple jump. Coey beat her own school record with a mark of 12.43m/40-9.50 on her third jump before improving her mark to 12.50m/41-0.25 on her fourth attempt. She then obliterated her previous mark on her sixth and final attempt with a jump of 12.75m/41-10.00 to move to 28th in Division I track & field this season. Ramos posted a mark of 12.49m/40-11.75 on her fifth try to take over the No. 2 spot in the Bobcat record books indoors.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Tilde Bjerager, Caroline Hawkes, Peyton Garrison, and Giulia Gandolfi shaved nearly 1.5 seconds off the previous school record, posting a converted time of 3:36.91 to win the event by over seven seconds. The quartet's time makes them the No. 16 relay in the NCAA so far this season and capped off a strong weekend for the Bobcats in Bozeman.
Earlier in the day, Bjerager opened her Bobcat career with a victory in the 60-meter hurdles, climbing to No. 8 in the school record books with a converted prelims time of 8.64 before improving to 8.51 to win in the finals. That time helped vault her to No. 4 on the Montana State all-time top-10 list. Millie Hubbell (4th) and Gandolfi (5th) also earned top-five finishes in the event with converted finals times of 8.84 and 8.92, respectively.
Kalei Moravitz improved from seventh to fifth on the Montana State all-time top-10 list with a converted time of 2:08.98 to win the 800m in Bozeman. She led a group of three Bobcats in the top five as Annie Kaul (3rd) clocked a 2:11.63 and Iris Rogel (5th) posted a 2:12.89.
Jenavieve Lynch earned the win in the women's weight throw with a season-best mark of 18.54m/60-10.00 on her third attempt. Sydney Brewster also finished in the top three in the event with a mark of 16.93m/55-6.50.
Trystin Chapel helped the Cats completed the sweep of the men's and women's triple jump, posting a mark of 14.66m/48-1.25 on his third attempt to win the event in Bozeman. The mark is also a new facility record.
Preston Wysocki finished the heptathlon second overall with 4,788 points. His best event on Saturday was the 60m, where he clocked a converted time of 8.77 to finish second. Mathias Mees posted an 8.82 to finish fourth in the 60m but did not compete in the pole vault or 1000m.
