Bobcat Men's Tennis Team Posts Season-Opening Win vs. Marquette

Montana State scratches out 4-3 victory
(Jan. 17, 2026) – Montana State scored a point in doubles play then swept the bottom three ladder positions to open the 2026 season with a 4-3 men's tennis win against Marquette in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Saturday.
Freshman David Ismanescu and sophomore Yassin Elaroussy combined to get the Bobcats off to a strong start with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, then sophomores Eddie Biss and Camille Chantron clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the second ladder spot.
Staked to a 1-0 lead, the Cats earned the win by piling up wins at the bottom three ladder spots. Freshman Ethan Massellis snared a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, then in short order classmate Ismanescu captured a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fifth ladder spot to push the Cats within a point of the victory.
The clinching point came next, but featured some drama. Elaroussy dropped the first set 4-6 before rolling to 6-1, 6-3 victories for a three-set win and the team point.
With the team outcome decided, MSU's top three players waged memorable battles. Chantron dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision at No. 3, Oumar Diallo fell 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 2, and Andre Stewart split a pair of 7-6 sets before dropping a 10-5 super tie-breaker in the closing set.
With a 1-0 record, the Bobcats play at North Dakota on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
