Greeny posted a tournament-record score of 5-under 211 at the Diane Thomason Invitational
IOWA CITY, Iowa --- Lauren Greeny secured Montana State's second individual win of the season and the fourth of her career to lead the Bobcats to a runner-up team finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational, on Tuesday.
Powered by her Finkbine Golf Course-record round of 64 on Monday, Greeny added rounds of 75 and 72 to conclude the tournament at 5-under 211, six strokes clear of the rest of the field. Greeny also set the Diane Thomason Invitational record for low tournament score, surpassing the previous mark of 212 set by Iowa's Jessica Ip in 2015.
As a team, Montana State claimed its fourth top-five finish of the year, including its third-straight tournament placing in the top three. The Cats carded rounds of 293, 300, and 301 to conclude the tournament with an 894, finishing five strokes back of team champion Iowa (889). The Bobcats led the field in birdies with 33 over the course of three rounds. Greeny and fellow senior Maddie Montoya led the charge for the Bobcats with top-10 individual finishes as Montoya concluded competition tied for eighth at 8-over 221. Eva Heinz (T-37th), Norah Seidl (T-49th), and Ashleigh Wilson (T-51st) rounded out the Bobcats' lineup in Iowa with three-round scores of 234, 236, and 237, respectively.
"Hats off to Greeny this week for her play!" Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "She was focused from start to finish. Getting a win in Iowa for her individually is huge. The team was close, and if we can keep putting ourselves in the final pairing on the last day of each tournament, then we are achieving our goals. Maddie had a good tournament on a great test of a golf course. We will keep the pedal down and work hard the next couple weeks to top off our season in Tulsa. We will keep working hard, and it will be a great test and treat to play in Tulsa against some awesome teams. Golf is hard, but this team will keep fighting. They are gritty! Congratulations to the Iowa team for bringing it the final round."
Greeny carded the Bobcats' lowest score in the third round with an even-par 72, highlighted by four birdies. The round marked the second lowest by any competitor in the field on Tuesday to help her secure the third-best individual tournament score of her career at 211. With her fourth career medalist honor, Greeny moved into a tie with Scarlet Weidig for second on Montana State's all-time wins list and needs just one more victory to tie Jen McGregor's five for the most in Bobcat history. Montoya added a counting round of 73 on Tuesday, sinking birdies on holes 7, 10, and 11 to earn her second top-10 result of the 2025-26 campaign. The Bobcats also counted a 76 from Heinz and an 80 by Seidl in the third round to conclude the tournament in second place.
Iowa posted a tournament-low round of 2-over 290 on Tuesday in a come-from-behind victory on its home course. The Hawkeyes posted a score of 889 while the Bobcats finished second with an 894. Montana State held a sizeable gap to the rest of the field, finishing 12 strokes ahead of third-place teams Southern Miss and South Dakota (906) while Bowling Green rounded out the top five at 911.
Greeny (211) claimed medalist honors by six strokes, finishing ahead of Omaha's Katie Ruge (217) and Southern Miss' Louise Cuyvers (218).
