Montana State track and field sends distance stars to Stanford, remaining crew to Montana Open on Friday and Saturday
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Following a historic week highlighted by seven new school records, Montana State track and field continues their outdoor season this Friday with action at both the Montana Open in Missoula and the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, California.
A group of Bobcat throwers, jumpers, and sprinters will compete at Dornblaser Field both Friday and Saturday across the Continental Divide, with the MSU distance crew returning to California for the second week in a row to take part in a smaller, competitive meet hosted by Stanford on Friday evening.

Montana State set seven new school records last week in southern California, with all seven coming on the women's side across a trio of high-level meets.
A pair of distance records went down at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, with Kyla Christopher-Moody setting a new MSU best in the 5,000 meters (15:47.56) and Grace Gilbreth breaking a ten-year-old record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:58.84).
At the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Sydney Brewster broke a Big Sky Conference record in the shot put (54-09.25) on the way to Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week honors, while teammate Emma Brensdal broke a discus school record (165-5) that had been held by her coach, Jen Allen, since 2001. Hailey Coey also collected her third school record of the year, setting a new MSU top mark in the long jump (20-11.25).
And finally, at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, both women's relay records were set two weeks after the men's team broke both of their relay records in Las Vegas.
The 4x100 relay squad of Brooke Reuter, Peyton Garrison, Jadyn VanDyken, and Jaeden Wolff became the first Bobcat quartet to break 45 seconds, clocking a time of 44.90.
The 4x400 relay squad of Jadyn VanDyken, Peyton Garrison, Giulia Gandolfi, and Caroline Hawkes broke their own record set two weeks ago by three seconds, crossing the line in 3:33.66.
Montana State's women climbed two spots to No. 3 in the latest USTFCCCA Mountain Region Rating Index, leapfrogging Northern Arizona and Utah while sitting behind only No. 1 Texas Tech and No. 2 BYU.
The Montana State men climbed three spots to No. 7.
The Bobcat men's 3,000 meter steeplechase group is ranked No. 1 in the country according to the USTFCCCA Event Squad index, cementing MSU's status as "Steeple U."
The Cats have four of the top-50 steeplechase times in the country this season, led by All-American Rob McManus (No. 4), All-American Harvey Cramb (No. 18), All-American Owen Smith (No. 32), and Division III All-American Will Kelly (No. 42).
That quartet ran four of the eight fastest times in school history last weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, and will all be in action on Friday in Palo Alto.
Including the pair of meets this weekend, only three weeks of competition remain until the 2025 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Sacramento State at Hornet Stadium from May 14-17.
