Harvey Cramb's 1,500 meters at Bryan Clay Invitational highlights third straight day of big marks for Montana State
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Montana State track and field continued a productive week in southern California on Friday, with athletes in action at three high-level meets in the Los Angeles area.
Throwers and select jumpers returned to Jack Rose Track in Long Beach for the first of two days at the Beach Invitational, with sprinters competing at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut. Capping the day were the distance runners completing their stay at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa with heats of the 1,500 meters.
One day after the Bobcat women set five new school records across the throws, jumps, and distance groups, MSU added four new top-five marks to the pile.
First, sophomore thrower Clara Fox placed third in the javelin at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach with a mark of 155-05.
The Bozeman High School product moves up to No. 5 all-time in school history with the throw, the best mark by a Bobcat since Carley VonHeeder set the school record in 2021.
After dark, Montana State's distance runners stayed hot with some eye-popping marks in the notoriously fast 1,500 meter heats at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Stadium on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
First, sophomore Eva Koos ran an eight-second personal-best to finish in a time of 4:24.09, the fourth-fastest race in school history behind only teammate Kyla Christopher-Moody (2024), Holly Stanish (1998) and Heather Haug (2010).
Later, the duo of Harvey Cramb and Rob McManus showed out in an electric heat of the men's 1,500 meters.
Cramb won the heat and the invite section with a blazing mark of 3:37.31, the all-conditions school record and the No. 2 time in school history behind only Duncan Hamilton's altitude-adjusted mark of 3:36.72 from 2023.
Incredibly, the sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, did it solo--going out by himself to lead the pack and setting the tempo and pace on the way to a remarkable run that currently ranks as the eighth-fastest in NCAA Division I this season.
In the same heat, fellow 2025 NCAA indoor mile All-American Rob McManus ran a personal-best 3:40.14 to finish tenth in the invite section.
The mark moves the senior up to No. 4 all-time in school history behind only Hamilton, Cramb, and Christian Soratos (2015), and places him just above Ben Perrin (2023) and Patrick Casey (2011) in the pecking order.
The race, which is among the top-25 fastest run in NCAA Division this year, comes just two days after the native of Cashmere, Washington, ran a three-second personal best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to improve upon his No. 2 mark in school history in that event (8:26.83).
