Coey Shatters School, Conference Long Jump Record as Bobcats Open Indoor Season at Bobcat PReview

Bobcats break two school records, make seven additions to program all-time top-10 list on Thursday
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- Hailey Coey leaped an astonishing 6.42 meters/21 feet, 0.75 inches in her final long jump attempt to break her own school and conference record to highlight an impressive opening meet for the Montana State track & field program on Thursday.
The Bobcats tallied 14 event wins, two school records, one conference record, and seven improvements to the program all-time top-10 list in the first-ever meet held at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center in Bozeman. The Bobcat PReview marked the first of four meets set to take place in the KSAC during the 2025-26 indoor season and featured a group of eight track & field programs from across Montana.
Coey recorded a mark of 6.35m/20-10.00 on her opening jump and improved as her series went on, bumping her mark to 6.37m/20-10.75 on her third jump and breaking her own school and conference record on her final attempt (6.42m/21-0.75). She led a Bobcat 1-2 finish in the long jump, with Sabine Brueck posting the No. 8 mark in program history (5.76m/18-10.75) to finish runner-up in the event.
Brewster also broke her own school record with a monster throw of 16.44m/53-11.25 in the shot put, winning the event by nearly two meters. Emma Brensdal joined her in the top two with a mark of 14.48m/46-4.25 for a runner-up finish.
Easton Hatleberg had a big day in the throws, winning the shot put and placing fourth in the weight throw with respective marks of 18.12m/59-5.50 and 18.22m/59-9.50. He moved from eighth to fifth in program history with his shot put mark.
Trystin Chapel helped complete the long jump sweep for the Bobcats with his winning mark of 7.34m/24-1.00, taking over the No. 6 spot in the Montana State record books. Destiny Nkeonye (7.12m/23-4.50) and Billy Cunningham (6.83m/22-5.00) joined him as top-five finishers on Thursday, with Nkeonye securing second place and Cunningham finishing fourth.
Two more Bobcats entered the school's all-time top-10 list in their MSU debuts on Thursday. Tamia Ramos won the triple jump with a mark of 11.65m/38-2.75 while Chase McGee finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.05m/16-6.75. Both Bobcats took over the No. 9 spot in program history in their respective events.
On the track, the Bobcats brought home eight event wins – six from individuals and two in the relays. Ethan Anderson earned Montana State's first win on the track in the 60-meter hurdles with an altitude-converted time of 8.34, and the Bobcats swept the 60-meter dash an hour later as Jaeden Wolff and Xavier Simpson brought home victories with converted times of 7.51 and 6.82, respectively. Three Bobcats finished in the top five of each 60m event, with Coey (7.53) and Peyton Garrison (7.61) placing second and fifth in the women's race and Drake Wilkes (6.86) and Noah Barbery (6.89) taking second and fourth in the men's race.
The Bobcats followed their impressive performances in the short sprints with victories in all three in which they competed across the 800m and 600m. Giulia Gandolfi clocked an adjusted 2:11.88 to win the women's 800m, and Caroline Hawkes (1:31.96) and Peyton Nelson (1:20.07) swept the 600m with their performances. Montana State went 1-2-3-4 in the men's 600m, with Mario Oblad (1:20.42), Nash Coley (1:21.20), and Tyler Gilman (1:22.79) following Nelson across the finish line.
The Bobcats wrapped up the evening with wins in the women's weight throw and the men's and women's 4x300-meter relay. Jenavieve Lynch posted a winning throw of 17.76m/58-3.25 on her first attempt to earn the Bobcats' final field win of the night. The women's 4x300m team of Garrison, Giulia Gandolfi, Wolff, and Hawkes clocked a time of 2:33.96 to earn the victory on the women's side while the men's team of Jett Grundy, Stryder Todd-Fields, Xavier Simpson, and Nelson posted a winning time of 2:16.59.

The Bobcats will return to action in late January, hosting the Bobcat Challenge at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center in Bozeman on Friday-Saturday Jan. 23-24.
