ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Montana State Volleyball team found its second loss of the season in a five-set battle with Milwaukee on day two of the Tommie Invitational.

The Bobcats (3-2) started slowly in the first set, as Milwaukee (2-3) put down 13 kills to the Bobcats' eight, resulting in a 25-15 score in favor of the Panthers.

Set two started in a similar fashion with Milwaukee taking an early lead, but Montana State answered with a 7-2 run, bringing the score to 11-11. The Bobcats inched ahead, maintaining their lead to a 25-23 win. The Cats carried their momentum into the third, scoring 25-18, and outnumbered the Panthers' offense with 15 kills to 10.

While Montana State led for the majority of the fourth, Milwaukee came out on top with a 25-21 win, sending the Bobcats to their third five-set match of the season. Montana State led the way for the first five points, but Milwaukee picked up steam, and the Bobcats fell 15-11.

Despite the result, Joelie Spelts and Lauren Greeny maintained their streak of offensive success, finishing with 13 kills apiece. Spelts finished with a .476 percentage in her third double-digit killing performance this season.

Setter Teagan Jaynes recorded her best defensive effort this year with 13 kills alongside 41 assists, and libero Nicolette Noble marked her fifth straight game with double-digit digs.

Montana State will continue and conclude play at the Tommie Invitational at 11 a.m. MT on Saturday when they face UIC.

The Bobcats' home opener will be played Sept. 10, the first of a three-game tournament featuring North Dakota State and Portland. Season and single-match tickets are on sale now.
