Montana State head women's tennis coach Suzie Woodburn announced the addition of two standouts to the 2024-25 roster, Wednesday afternoon. Signing National Letters of Intent are Jojo Bach, Brighton, United Kingdom, and Kavya Khirwar, New Delhi, India.
Bach, a graduate transfer who has made stops at Portland, Maryland, and Delaware, competed primarily in doubles during the 2022-23 season with the Terrapins, where she combined with Hannah McColgan to record a 15-6 overall mark and a 4-3 mark Big 10 ledger. As a senior in singles action, Bach went 10-4 overall.
"We are thrilled that Jojo chose to be a Bobcat for her grad year," Woodburn said. "I coached against her when I was at Wisconsin, and she was at Maryland. I saw firsthand her fierceness on the court, the swag she brings in doubles, and the way she carries herself on the court.
"When the opportunity presented to make her a Bobcat, I knew we wanted her to elevate our program," Woodburn added. "Not only is she a talented and extremely hard-working individual, but she is also a natural leader and cares about her team and the team's success."
During her junior season with the Terps, Bach went 13-12 in doubles and 12-10 in singles. She played alongside Marta Perez Mur, and the tandem opened the spring season on a five-match winning streak. Prior to Maryland, she played two seasons at the University of Delaware. As a sophomore, Bach garnered All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team honors in both singles and doubles after leading the Blue Hens to a 7-0 mark in regular season action.
Bach was on the University of Portland roster last season as a redshirt.
Before her collegiate experiences, Bach was a G4 ITF doubles champion, a G1 British Tour semifinalist, a two-time doubles finalist and a two-time singles semifinalist at ITF Juniors in Kenya, and a doubles and singles finalist at ITF Juniors in Sri Lanka.
"I think MSU is a great fit for me on and off the court," Bach said. "I really believe in the program and culture that Coach Woodburn is building here, and I can't wait to be a part of it."
Khirwar, who has two years of eligibility remaining, comes to MSU via Miranda House College of Delhi and is currently ranked No. 30 in singles and No. 45 in the All-India women's listing. In 2021, Khirwar was a top 10 player at U18 and captured the U18 junior national doubles title. She also ranked among the top 10 at U16.
"We are so excited to be adding Kavya to our Bobcat family," Woodburn said. "Kavya is an incredible player who is extremely aggressive and hungry to get better. When speaking with her, her goals aligned with our program. She is a joy to be around, and she'll make us all better. We are so thankful that she will be in Bozeman, and we can't wait to see all the amazing things she will accomplish."
Khirwar represented Miranda House at the Khelo India University Games in February and captured the silver medal, along with winning gold at the Northzone Inter University tournament in 2023. Khirwar was also the winner of the Road to Pro Tennis League in 2022.
Off the court, Khirwar is a 4.0 student and earned the prestigious Elijah Scholarship at her school in 2019, 2020, and 2021, awarded to the best student-athlete.
"I chose Montana State because of the coaches," Khirwar said. "I loved the conversations I had with them, as well as their interest and eagerness to have me be part of the program. MSU is a great academic school, and it has a really good and diverse tennis team."
