For the first time in school history the Bobcats had three players in main draw singles, and three tandems in the main draw doubles.
Montana State women's tennis recorded its best-ever outing at the ITA Regional Championships last weekend as the top mountain regional squads traveled to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
For the first time in school history the Bobcats had three players in main draw singles, and three tandems in the main draw doubles. Sophomore Hudson Hawkins played her way into the main draw recording a pair of notable victories over Chenyue Xu of Idaho 6-3, 6-1, and Wyoming's Elena Trencheva 7-5, 6-4. The product of Las Vegas fell in the opening round of the main draw in three sets but rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 7-6(1), 6-4 win over Boise State's Bhakti Shah.
"Watching Hudson get into the main draw with two huge wins was one of the highlights of the weekend," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "She really trusted and committed to her game and it's great to see her rewarded for her efforts.
"This was definitely the best regional we've had in my time at MSU," Woodburn added. "We competed hard in every match, and we played quality opponents. Our concentration, attitude and confidence showed all weekend, and we'll use this momentum heading into the final tournament next weekend."
