Montana State freshman and recent Bozeman High graduate Meg McCarty got her career as a Bobcat off to a good start
Montana State freshman and recent Bozeman High graduate Meg McCarty got her career as a Bobcat off to a good start. Playing at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles, McCarty went undefeated as MSU opened its season with wins over North Dakota and Seattle U.
For her efforts, McCarty earned Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Last Friday, McCarty posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over UND's Sapir Sela. She also combined with doubles partner Andrea Cuquerella for a 6-2 victory over Aziza Aubin and Nyah Kauders.
"Meg started playing tennis as a little girl at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "These truly are her home courts, and the community was so excited to watch her compete for the first time as an official Bobcat."
On Sunday morning, McCarty notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over SU's Lilya Dimova. McCarty and Cuquerella won a hard fought 7-6 (8-6) tiebreaker over Lamija Avdic and jade Quintana to clinch the doubles points for the Bobcats.
"Meg came ready to go," Wood burn said. "She played incredibly smart and disciplined all weekend long. We are sure this is the first of many accolades for Meg and we are so glad she is a Bobcat."
Montana State plays at Utah on Friday at 12 p.m. in Salt Lake City.
