The Montana State women's tennis team saw numerous individual breakthroughs over the weekend at the Barb Chandler Classic at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho. Newcomers Mia Ljubas and Angel Bean each picked up their first victories in singles, while Bean also added a win in doubles action.

"Overall, it was a great weekend for the Bobcats," said MSU second-year head coach Suzie Woodburn. "We had individual wins against Montana, Idaho State and Boise State. Meg (McCarty) and Paula (Dougherty) won the consolation back draw and competed well throughout the weekend."

The Barb Chandler Classic is an annual mini-dual competition with teams divided into pairs. Each pair competes together throughout the competition, playing one doubles match and two singles contests against another pair; a pair winning two of the three points wins the match.

All four MSU tandems took at least one victory in three different draws. The Bobcats' duo of Paula Dougherty and Meg McCarty posted wins over Montana and Idaho State to win the Blue Draw consolation title. Individually, Ljubas, a transfer from Oregon, defeated Utah State's Savannah Johnson 7-6(1), 6-2 on Saturday, while Bean, a freshman from Montreal, Canada, defeated Idaho State's Sol O'Lideadha 6-3, 6-4, and combined with Jazmin Lerman to take down ISU 7-6(4).

"After spending the past three weekends on the road, we are excited to be home to continue training and improving before the final fall tournaments," Woodburn added.
