Garcia-Reboredo Captures Bedford Cup Singles Title

Montana State tennis standout Marta Garcia-Reboredo captured the singles title in the Bravo Bracket at the USAFA Bedford Cup over the weekend.
Montana State tennis standout Marta Garcia-Reboredo captured the singles title in the Bravo Bracket at the USAFA Bedford Cup over the weekend. The junior from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain won three matches on her way to the championship.
Garcia-Reboredo defeated Idaho State's Hana Cho 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7) in quarterfinal action before dispatching Utah State's Lisa Kung 6-3, 7-5 in semifinal play to move into the championship match against BYU's Madison Smith.
"In singles, Marta won the singles B draw after winning three consecutive singles matches," said MSU assistant coach Leo Millet. "She played great tennis all weekend long and showed amazing composure and determination throughout some tough matches."
MSU newcomer and Bozeman product Meg McCarty also made the semifinals of the Bravo Bracket with a victory over Denver's Alice Otis 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the quarters, before falling to Smith 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
"Our freshman, Meg McCarty, also reached the semifinals of the B draw and dropped her lone singles in a very close three set match," Millet said. "The rest of the girls also picked up some victories and competed well."
MSU's top doubles tandem of Garcia-Reboredo and McCarty advanced to the quarterfinals of the top draw, before suffering a 6-2 setback to Boise State's Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo.
"In doubles, Marta and Meg reached the quarterfinals of the top draw and earned a pair of victories," Millet said. "This was their first time playing together but they showed great composure and communications throughout their matches."
Also playing in the Bedford Cup for the Bobcats were Paula Dougherty, Andrea Cuquerella, Angle Bean, and Hudson Hawkins.
"Overall, it was a great weekend for the team," Millet commented. "Paula Dougherty and Meg McCarty picked up their first victories as Bobcats and everyone gained some experience playing against great programs."
The Bobcats travel to the Boise State Invitational next weekend.
