Bobcats Capture Five Wins at Opening Day of Bedford Cup

The Montana State women’s tennis team picked up five victories during the opening day of the Bedford Cup fall tournament hosted by the Air Force Academy on Thursday. MSU took three singles matches and two in doubles play.
The Montana State women's tennis team picked up five victories during the opening day of the Bedford Cup fall tournament hosted by the Air Force Academy on Thursday. MSU took three singles matches and two in doubles play.
MSU newcomer Paula Dougherty posted a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Wyoming's Sophie Zehander in the Alpha Bracket, while Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Meg McCarty each registered victories in the Bravo Bracket against opponents from Mountain West Conference members AFA and Utah State, respectively.
"It was a very good first day for the team," said MSU assistant coach Leo Millet. "We picked up some great victories in doubles with Marta and Meg going undefeated. In singles we won three out of five and showed a great mindset throughout our matches. It was the first wins as Bobcats for Paula and Meg."
In doubles play, the tandem of Garcia-Reboredo and McCarty won two matches to advance to the round of eight. The MSU duo defeated Idaho 8-4, before dispatching Denver 8-5.
Play on Friday was halted due to inclement weather.
