The senior ran a 1:51.14 for the 12th fastest time of the day amongst 40 competitors in Seattle on Saturday.
SEATTLE, Wash. – Montana State mid-distance runner Chris Bianchini placed fifth in his heat of the 800 meters and 12th overall to wrap up the Bobcat track team's time at the 2023 Washington Husky Classic on Saturday.
Bianchini's time of 1:51.14 was the 12th-fastest in a field of over 40 runners at the Husky Classic. A grand total of six runners went sub-1:50, with two of those times coming from Bianchini's heat.
Running in the second-fastest heat of the day, Bianchini started along the outside and filed into the middle of the pack for the first half-lap on the 300-meter track. Two Kentucky and USC runners assumed position in the top four while Bianchini was situated in fifth as he tried holding off the rest of the field.
Approaching the final 300 meters, Charleston Southern's Rob Howorth tried making a move on the outside, but Bianchini countered his moves on the penultimate turn. Howorth and Idaho's Zac Bright slingshotted ahead in the final 150 meters as the runners fanned out along the home stretch for their finishing kicks. Bianchini would overtake Poynter — one of the USC runners who took out the race at the front — and nearly caught Kentucky's Alex Justus at the end of the race.
The super-senior ranks third in the Big Sky Conference behind Idaho's duo of Lorenz Herrmann (1:47.39) and the aforementioned Bright (1:49.85) — both of whom ran their fastest time of the season at the Husky Classic this weekend.
Bianchini and the Bobcats will host one final regular-season meet — the Big Sky Tuner — on Friday, Feb. 17. All meet information can be found on the men's and women's track teams' schedule pages on msubobcats.com.
