BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State track and field program is set to compete in the Treasure State for the first time this outdoor season as the Bobcats gear up for the Al Manuel Northwest Invitational in Missoula. While the hammer throw and shot put take place starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, a majority of the events start on Saturday with the action starting at 11 a.m. at Dornblaser Field.
Montana State will be participating in its second meet of the outdoor slate. Last week, the Bobcats took part in a pair of meets held in the Los Angeles area. MSU returned to Bozeman with a total of 14 new all-time top 10 program marks. It included two top 10 adjusted marks by both Derrick Olsen and Elena Carter, along with an updated school record in the women's high jump by Lucy Corbett.
"Throughout the indoor season the team just kept getting better," said Lyle Weese, Montana State's Dale Kennedy director of track and field. "It was great to see in our first outdoor meet that the progress seemed to continue.
"Overall, it seems like it was our best or one of our best outdoor season openers ever, so that was exciting. Kind of across the board with all of our event groups, we had a lot of great stuff occur."
Montana State is set to face competition from Division I foes Montana and Eastern Washington. Several other schools will also be participating in Carroll College, Montana Tech, Montana Western, Providence and Rocky Mountain.
"Last year, Montana was competing in their first meet of the season at this time and they competed really well," Weese said. "We'll be up against some competition that's excited to compete. It'll be great to be up against two Big Sky Conference schools along with facing fields with multiple competitors."
The Al Manuel Northwest Invitational will not have a stream or live results available. The meet schedule and meet program can be found on the story page at msubobcats.com.
