EDEN, Utah – Kameryn Basye sits among the top three on the individual leaderboard and Montana State is just five strokes from second place in the team standings as Montana State's golf team completed the first two rounds of play on Monday, Sept. 20, at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational at Wolf Creek Resort Golf Course.
Basye fired a first-round 78 then followed it up with an even-par 72 in the second round. The 72 is the best 18-hole score of the season by a Bobcat golfer. Four of Basye's five birdies of the day came en route to her 72. She's currently tied for third individually with a 6-over 150. Pluem Yongyuan of Southern Utah is in first with a 145 and Weber State's Taitum Beck trails her at 146.
MSU as a team fired a 309 in the first round and carded a 314 in the second round on a day that featured heavy winds throughout at the Weber State-hosted tournament. The Bobcats' took advantage in the first round scoring a 1-under on the front nine after recording 22-over on the back nine.
Montana State (623) narrowly trails Southern Utah (618) and Northern Colorado (620) in the team standings, while WSU holds the lead with a first day total of 601 strokes.
The 'Cats got off to a good start behind the efforts of freshmen Bailey Anderson and Jordan Briggs. Each recorded a 4-over-par 76 to start the day. Briggs shot a 79 in the second round – which included an eagle on the par 5, 420-yard hole 18 – and currently sits in a tie for eighth at 11-over 155. Anderson is tied for 20th with a 157 through 36 holes.
Cora Rosanova and Hannah Rosanova also competed for the Bobcats Monday. Cora fired a 161 through two rounds and is tied for 30th overall. Hannah carded a 174 and is in 52nd.
MSU and the tournament field returns to action at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Eden for the final round of play.
