BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State women's tennis team will close out its regular season when it hosts a pair of Big Sky Conference matches in the Bobcat Anderson Tennis Center. MSU will face Eastern Washington on Friday at 10 a.m., and will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday against Idaho at 10 a.m.
"It's going to be an exciting weekend," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "We have two tough must-win matches. We're ready to contend after ten days of individualized training and recouping from injuries. The team is ready, and they have made tremendous strides this year considering all the challenges they've faced."
Montana State enters the weekend looking for its first victory in Big Sky North division action after dropping its last two matches at home by identical 4-3 decisions to Weber State and Montana, respectively. A pair of victories this week could propel the Bobcats into the second or third place slot.
Seniors Laura Mary and Enni Zander guide the Bobcats. Mary enters with a 4-4 mark at No. 1 singles, while Zander is 5-4 overall, including a 3-1 mark at No. 6 singles. Freshman Felicia Jayasaputra has also notched four wins, including a pair of victories at No. 3 singles.
Eastern Washington (6-8, 2-0) is undefeated in league play heading into Friday's contest. The Eagles knocked off North division foes Idaho (4-3) and Portland State (4-3). EWU is led by Jennifer Kida and Yasmin Mansouri, who have both tallied 7-3 overall records. Kida, a freshman from Wilmington, Calif., plays No. 1 singles for the Eagles.
Idaho (2-7, 0-2) has dropped North division matches to Eastern Washington (4-3) and Portland State (4-3). The Vandals are led by Katherine Jhang at No. 3 singles, where the freshman from Taichung, Taiwan, has registered an 6-3 overall mark and a 4-2 ledger at No. 3 singles.
Sunday's match against the Vandals will mark the end of the careers for Mary and Zander.
"We will celebrate Laura Mary and Enni Zander on Sunday," Reeves said. "They have both been outstanding leaders and representatives of our program, and they will be greatly missed. Their spirit and team camaraderie has been terrific and is laying the groundwork for many years to come."
