Bobcat Women Picked Sixth in Big Sky Preseason Tennis Poll

The Montana State women’s tennis team was picked to finish sixth in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll on Thursday as voted by the league’s coaches.
The Montana State women's tennis team was picked to finish sixth in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll on Thursday as voted by the league's coaches.
Despite only having one athlete on campus during the fall semester, sixth-year head coach Jon Reeves is ecstatic that a full Bobcat roster will be able to compete this winter.
"It will be exciting to see our team together next week," Reeves said. "This will be the first time having the team together for the 2020-21 season. In the fall, six of our seven student-athletes decided to stay home where they felt more safe during the pandemic.
"We have a very different team this year with five returners and the addition of two true-freshmen," Reeves added. "Due to COVID-19 and the NCAA giving spring sports a year of eligibility back, our team suddenly is very young. Athletically, we have five freshmen, one junior and one senior."
Last winter, the Bobcats had just opened its Big Sky Conference season with a 4-3 victory over Montana before the season was halted.
Guiding MSU this season will be grad student Laura Mary, a native of Eaubonne, France. Mary is a two-time Second-Team All-Big Sky performer in singles, and an honorable mention selection in doubles.
Enni Zander, a junior from Stockholm, Sweden, is MSU's other returning upperclassmen.
"After ten months away from team practice, we are going to take our time getting everyone back on track," Reeves said. "I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to practice and compete.
"First, we need to make sure we are healthy, and take every precaution to make sure we don't do too much too quickly," he added. "After being home for so long, I hope the ladies return with a passion for the game, and truly realize how special the collegiate athlete opportunity is."
The Bobcats are scheduled to open its season on Feb. 13 at Gonzaga.
