Track & Field Selects Indoor Season Award Winners

Montana State track and field program selected its award winners for the 2019-20 indoor season. The Bobcats had eight individuals recognized for their achievements during the indoor slate.
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State track and field program selected its award winners for the 2019-20 indoor season. The Bobcats had eight individuals recognized for their achievements during the indoor slate.
Juniors Morgan Evans and Drake Schneider were selected as MSU's Outstanding Track Performer honorees.
Evans earned her second ever podium appearance by earning a runner-up showing in the women's 60 hurdles at the Big Sky Championships in February. Her time of 8.60 converted due to altitude was the third fastest mark in program history. She also placed 16th in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.78 seconds at the Big Sky meet. Schneider captured bronze medals in both the 200-meter dash and 400-meter run at the conference championships. Schneider set a lifetime best in the 200 (21.57 seconds) and had his best non-converted time of 48.03 in the 400 during the indoor season. He jumped from seventh to fourth in the 200 on the list.
Wyatt Thompson-Siporen and Lucy Corbett were selected as MSU's Outstanding Field Performers. Thompson-Siporen earned a silver medal in the heptathlon for the second consecutive year. He totaled 5,111 points behind lifetime bests in the 60 hurdles (9.11 seconds) and the 1,000 (2 minutes, 58.73 seconds). He also finished fourth in the pole vault. Corbett claimed back-to-back Big Sky titles in the high jump with her clearance of 5 feet, 07.50 inches (1.72m). Corbett along with three others topped the height, but the MSU sophomore did it without a miss to earn gold in the event
Ian Fosdick was named MSU's Outstanding Freshman award winner. Fosdick completed his lifetime best leap in the triple jump for the Bobcats at the Big Sky meet in Pocatello. His mark of 48-06.75 (14.80m) was the eighth best triple jump in program history and helped earn him a bronze medal.
MSU's most improved selections were Schneider, Elena Carter, Alex Hellenberg and Derrick Olsen.
Carter and Hellenberg each scored in two events for the Bobcat women's team at the conference championships. Carter, who went into the meet 24th on the Big Sky performance list in the long jump, finished with a season-best jump of 17-10.75 (5.45m) to take eighth. She also took sixth in the 60 hurdles in a time of 8.73 which was the eighth best time ever by a Bobcat. Carter completed the 10th fastest time in program history in the 60 of 7.77 seconds in the Bobcat Preview in December. Hellenberg finished seventh overall in Pocatello in the pole vault and triple jump, while she also placed 12th in the long jump. Her triple jump of 39-01.25 is the fourth best on the program's all-time top 10 chart.
Olsen scored in two events for the Montana State men's squad. Olsen broke the school record in the 60 hurdles in the preliminaries, then topped it with a converted time of 8.01 seconds to place fourth at the Big Sky meet. He also took fourth in the 200 with a personal-best time of 21.72 which is the eighth fastest mark all-time among Bobcat runners.
