Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Adds Three

Montana State head women’s tennis coach Jon Reeves has announced three additions to the 2021-22 Bobcat roster.
Montana State head women's tennis coach Jon Reeves has announced three additions to the 2021-22 Bobcat roster. Joining the Montana State squad are Freia Lawrence of Palma De Mallorca, Balearics, Spain, Andrea Cuquerella of Xahua, Valencia, Spain, and Maria Villarejo of Madrid, Spain.
"I am incredibly excited about our signings for Fall 2021," Reeves said. "We have added three very talented and experienced student-athletes to our team. Freia, Andrea, and Maria are friends and competitors coming to Montana from their home country of Spain. It is exciting to have players come into our program who have a positive history together."
Lawrence attends Alpha Omega Academy and has been the top ranked player at the U12, U14 and U16 levels in the Balearic Islands. Playing at U16, she was the winner of two Grade 5 ITF matches and was the part of the doubles tandem that won the Europe Yellow Ball. As a U15 player, Lawrence was invited to play in the Spanish Masters as one of the top 16 players. She has also been chosen to represent Balearics at the Legends Cup against Sweden and numerous Spanish region competitions. In 2015, she was a doubles finalist at the championship of Spain.
Cuguerella preps at IES Josep de Ribera and Ntra Sra de la Seo. She was a member of the 2020 Division 2 Comunidad, Valencia champion squad. In 2019, Cuguerella was the Valencia provincial champion and was a finalist in the David Ferrer national tournament. She was also a semifinalist in the national tournament Marca in Albacete, Valencia, and Badajoz in Sevilla in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Villarejo attends IES Alameda de Osuna and Sra Marie de la Providencia coached by Paloma Diaz Sada. She has been ranked as high as No. 126 in Spain. Playing in youth leagues, Villarejo was first in the region for Division 2 competition. She was a quarterfinalist of the regional championship in Madrid juniors, a semifinalist in the Madrid women's tournament.
"All three will bring with them a bond of togetherness and a high level of expectation and work ethic," Reeves stated. "Freia, Andrea and Maria will have an immediate impact. They are driven to improve, they love to compete, and they are fired up about our team. Our team will be young and talented. It will be fun watching them grow and develop together."
