The Montana State golf team will compete in a tournament of the past for the program when it appears in the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado, starting on Monday. Hosted by Colorado State at Ptarmigan Country Club, the event is in its 22nd year and will be the first time the Bobcats have competed in it in over 10 years.
"The big thing about this tournament for us is we're going back to Colorado," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We use to play it back in the day. It's a fun, but challenging golf course. It's always in great shape. It'll be nice for us to get to take Delaney (Elliott) back to play in her home state, so I'm really happy about that."
Montana State's lineup for the Ptarmigan Ram Classic will consist of Kelly Hooper, Delaney Elliott, Sofia Rodriguez Todd, Coral Schulz and Hailey Oster.
Hooper led the Bobcats at the Battle at Old Works in Anaconda, Montana, placing second overall in the individual standings to begin the 2019-20 season. Elliott competed as part of MSU's scoring lineup and finished in the top 20. Rodriguez Todd and Schulz each shot three-round scores of 233 which were tied for the fourth lowest among Bobcat golfers at the tournament. Oster carded a low-round 71 which was a career high and second lowest among Bobcat golfers last week.
The Bobcats carded a 902 as a team at the Battle at Old Works which was the fifth lowest 54-hole score in program history. MSU looks to build off a strong opening meet heading into its second of four fall events.
"With the momentum coming off of Old Works and giving them a couple days off, I think we're going to be ready to get back into the competitive mode," Basye said. "It will be good see and compete against some teams we wouldn't usually see."
The Ptarmigan Ram Classic begins at 9 a.m. on Monday with 36 holes taking place on the opening day. The final round is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
