
Bobcats Haul in USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

The Montana State track and field men’s and women’s teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics as well as seven MSU student-athletes
NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Monday, July 22, its All-Academic Teams and USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees for the 2018-19 NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons.
The Montana State track and field men's and women's teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics. A total of 227 Division I women's programs were recognized compared to 139 men's teams. Both squads achieved the required 3.0 cumulative team GPA requirements.
Seven Bobcat student-athletes were named All-Academic individuals. Honored by the USTFCCCA were Lucy Corbett, McKenna Ramsay, Duncan Hamilton, Alex Lewis, Alec Nehring, Drake Schneider and Wyatt Thompson-Siporen.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards; for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collevitve listing in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Corbett earned a gold medal in the high jump at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championship. Her leap of 5 feet, 9.25 inches (1.76m) moved her to second all-time in program history in the event. She became only the third Bobcat ever to win the Big Sky title on the women's team and eventually was named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year for her performance. She ended her freshman year by taking sixth at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the high jump.
Ramsay was an all-conference performer in three events at the Big Sky Indoor meet and in two events at the conference outdoor championships. She earned two gold medals in Worthington Arena in February. She improved her lifetime bests in the 400 during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, with each ranked fourth on the Bobcats' all-time top 10 lists.
Hamilton claimed the gold medal at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the 3,000 steeplechase, becoming MSU's first champion in the event since Lyle Weese won the event in 2003. His personal best time during the year of 9:01.36 is the 10th fastest in program history. Hamilton ended his freshman season by taking 33rd in the event at the NCAA West Prelminary Round in Sacramento.
Lewis broke both of MSU's indoor and outdoor long jump records during his senior season. He earned his first all-conference honors during the indoor season by taking third overall in the long jump at the Big Sky meet. He placed second in the event at the outdoor championships to earn a silver medal. Lewis advanced to his third West Region meet and finished a career-best 19th place.
Nehring became a two-time all-conference performer in the shot put at the Big Sky Indoor Championships. His throw of 58-01 was a personal best and moved him to sixth in program history in the event. He was previously selected by CoSIDA as a Google Cloud Academic All-American.
Schneider had strong indoor and outdoor seasons for the Bobcat men's program. He earned a gold medal on a school-record breaking 4x400 relay squad at the Big Sky Indoor meet and also earned a bronze medal in the 400. He repeated as the 400 hurdles champion at the conference outdoor championships by setting a school record mark in the event of 51.38 seconds. The mark was the 31st fastest in the West Region and advanced him to the preliminary round.
Thompson-Siporen earned two all-conference performances in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He earned a gold medal in the pole vault and silver in the heptathlon at the Big Sky Indoor Championships. At the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, Thompson-Siporen finished second in the decathlon and pole vault. Both his event marks during the indoor season ranked him in the top 96 nationally.
