Alex Flink Finishes Strong, Earns Big Sky Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

Bobcat senior finishes his career in fine fashion
BOZEMAN, Montana – In his last week as a Bobcat, Montana State senior Alex Flink did his best work.
Flink dominated the final weekend of his career, beating Montana's Alex Canellopoulos 6-1, 6-3 and Southern Utah's Jonathan Morales 6-0, 6-2, both at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with Drew Brown to earn a 6-1 win over Montana's No. 1 doubles team (his doubles match against SUU went unfinished). Flink won three of his last four singles matches to finish 9-7 on the season, 6-4 in Big Sky play. He and Brown finished 6-5 in doubles play, 4-3 in the league.
"Alex had a really good senior season," said MSU coach Jared Burnham, "and I'm proud of him for finishing strong. There aren't any days off when you play No. 1, and he did a great job staying focused and competing. He's had a productive career, he's been a real rock of stability for us, and he did a tremendous job last weekend when the pressure was on."
Montana State entered its final regular season weekend needing two wins to secure a berth in this week's Big Sky Tournament, and one to have a chance. MSU won the annual Cat-Griz dual on Thursday before dropping Friday's match against Southern Utah to finish in a tie for fifth place in the league with UM and Idaho State. MSU lost the tie-breaker ending the team's season.
