Montana State Men's Tennis Team Hosts Weber State in Home Opener Saturday

Bobcats look to get back on track in league play
The 2019 spring season has been a hit-and-miss affair for the Montana State men's tennis team.
Weather cost the Bobcats two matches in a weekend, and MSU has played only two matches – on back-to-back days – in the last 29 days. Health has also cost the Bobcats, with several players navigating the season's early going with nagging injuries.
But Jared Burnham hopes his squad is ready to put that all behind them on Saturday, when red-hot Weber State visits the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center for a Big Sky showdown at 10 am. "It will be great to play at home," Burnham said, "but mostly it will just be great to play. We need to get going and build some momentum."
The 1-7 Bobcats (0-1 in Big Sky play) face a tall task. Weber State opened the spring with seven straight losses, but answered that with four straight wins. The Wildcats (4-8, 2-0 Big Sky) beat Eastern Washington and Northern Colorado to open league play. Stefan Cooper leads the way at 11-10 in singles play, all at No. 1. Michael Van Schoor is 15-5, most at No 5, and Kris Van Wyk is 13-6 at No. 2 singles.
MSU looks for consistency up and down the ladder spots. Alex Flink and Drew Brown hold down the top of the lineup, while Christian Damgaard Qvist, a freshman, has been productive in the middle of the order. Veterans such as Mateus Ceolin and Joaquin Espinoza also contribute.
After Saturday's match, the Bobcats host Northern Arizona on Sunday at 2 pm.
