MSU’s Thompson-Siporen Among Top of Heptathlon Field at Big Sky Meet

Montana State’s Wyatt Thompson-Siporen sits among the leaders in the men’s heptathlon as the Bobcats’ multi-event athletes completed the opening day of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State's Wyatt Thompson-Siporen sits among the leaders in the men's heptathlon as the Bobcats' multi-event athletes completed the opening day of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, Feb. 21, inside of Worthington Arena.
Thompson-Siporen has accumulated 2,947 points through the first four events of the heptathlon. That total is just 42 points behind leader and reigning Big Sky champion Donte Robinson of Portland State.
The Bobcat junior took first overall among the heptathletes in the long jump behind a personal-best mark of 23 feet, 1.25 inches (7.04m). He also took second in the shot put with a toss of 41-03 (12.57m), tied a lifetime best of 7.26 seconds in the 60-meter dash to tie for sixth and finished seventh in the high jump by clearing 6-01.50 (1.87m).
Hunter Nicholson and Caleb Neth are currently seventh and ninth, respectively, with three events to go in the event.
Nicholson has a total of 2,734 points and Neth follows with 2,695. Nicholson completed three lifetime bests and finished as high as a tie for third overall in the high jump with a mark of 6-04 (1.93m). Neth took fourth in the field of competitors in the long jump with his leap of 22-03.50 (6.79m). He also earned a personal best in the 60 dash with a time of 7.26 seconds.
The heptathlon picks back up at 10 a.m. on Friday in Worthington Arena starting with the 60 hurdles. Individual championship events begin at 3 p.m.
A live stream of the Big Sky Championships will be available each day of the meet, excluding the final three heptathlon events which begin on Friday morning. Fans at home can watch the meet on Pluto TV or the Pluto TV app by visiting channel 238. The stream can also be viewed on WatchBigSky.com.
