The Bobcats concluded their indoor regular season and are set for the conference meet less than a week away in Worthington Arena
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State University track and field program concluded its 2018-19 regular indoor season in Worthington Arena on Friday, Feb. 15, by hosting the Big Sky Tuner. The Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships start Thursday on the Bozeman campus.
"This meet is really set up to help us perform well at the conference championships," said Lyle Weese, Montana State Director of Track and Field. "I thought we had a few performances that indicate some good things for us as a team. A lot of people that maybe had kind of struggled for a race or competition or two came back in this one and had a really solid meet which is great to see."
Several Bobcats achieved lifetime bests throughout the meet.
Senior Courtney Stromme finished runner-up in a photo finish in the women's 60-meter dash behind a lifetime-best mark of 7.75 seconds. Her time moved her from a tie for 10th to ninth on the Bobcats' all-time top 10 chart. Morgan Evans also achieved a personal best of 7.80 to finish third.
Lucy Corbett took first in the women's high jump by clearing 5 feet, 8 inches, tying her previous personal best in the event. Madi Arneson achieved a lifetime-best mark in the shot put with a toss of 43-10.50 (13.37m), while Elena Carter and Hannah Hicks each registered personal bests in the long jump.
Freshman Brock McCue recorded two lifetime-best efforts on the men's side. He took third in both the shot put and weight throw with marks of 50-09.25 and 49-00.75, respectively.
Hailey Phillips (400), Kendra Larson (800) and Anna French (10:35.10) each finished first in their respective events with Phillips and Larson's times recorded in season-best marks for the women's team. Lexi Kyro (mile) and Twila Reovan (triple jump) each finished second in an event, while Natalie Perkins took second in the 400 with a season-best 59.96. Isabella Calabrese also completed her best clearance of the season in the women's pole vault and took runner-up with a mark of 12-01.50.
Delaney Smith took third in two events, Kathleen Glockner placed third in the 3,000, Truanne Roginske led the Bobcats taking third in long jump and Gillian Maness finished in the same spot in the mile by crossing the line in her fastest time of the year of 5:05.59.
Christopher Lange (400), Cameron Carroll (800) and Aidan Pedersen (high jump) all recorded season bests en route to finishing first in their respective events for the Bobcat men's squad.
Alex Lewis, Noah Martin and Alec Nehring all recorded first-place finishes at the Big Sky Tuner. Finishing in the top two of an event on at least one occasion included Ty Mogan, Bill Yeager, Josh Mertz, Caleb Neth and Hunter Nicholson. Chris Bianchini took third in the 800 behind a season-best time of 1:53.75.
Montana State will look next to hosting the Big Sky Championship meet from Feb. 21-23 inside Worthington Arena with multi-events taking place on the opening day. The full event schedule for the championships begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22.
"I think for the most part this next week will have a big focus on recovery," Weese said. "We'll do just enough so that we aren't flat going into the conference championships. It won't be a heavy training week, just getting everybody's minds and bodies prepared."
