Head Coach Jared Burnham Departs MSU Men's Tennis, Trey Morris Joins as Assistant

Morris to Serve as Interim Coach
BOZEMAN, Montana – After six seasons leading the Montana State men's tennis program, Jared Burnham has accepted a similar position at Eastern Washington University. Also on Wednesday, MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello announced the appointment of Trey Morris as Assistant Men's Tennis Coach.
Burnham arrived at MSU prior to the 2013 season after nine seasons as the head coach at Weber State, and led the Cats to its first regular season title since 2006 in that campaign. He was named 2013 Big Sky Coach of the Year. "I appreciate Jared's years of service at Montana State," Costello said. "His student-athletes achieved success on the court and in the classroom, and we wish him the best."
Morris joins the Bobcat program after an all-conference playing career at Appalachian State (2015-17) and a year playing professionally in Germany (April 2018-present) for the T C Rot-Weiss Bliesheim Club in Bundesliga. He earned All-Sun Belt Doubles honors, All-Sun Belt Academic honors, and was team captain as a senior, and finished his career with a 44-27 singles record and a 42-23 doubles mark. Morris also played at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, in 2014, when his squad finished third in the national junior college ranks.
Morris worked as Tennis Director and Associate Owner at Baskin-McGill Tennis Academy in Marietta, Georgia, for the past year-and-a-half, and before that was the Assistant Tennis Pro (May 2016-December 2017) and Head Tennis Pro (December 2017-April 2018) for two years. He also served as a volunteer assistant for the Appalachian State men's and women's tennis programs in 2017, and as an assistant tennis pro at Tennys Dynamics in Marietta, Georgia (January-April 2018) and at Grandfather Golf & Country Club in North Carolina (2016-17).
"We feel fortunate to be able to attract a candidate with Trey's experience and success," Costello said. "He played collegiate tennis at a high level and has experience playing and teaching as a professional, and he's functioned in many roles that prepare him for his position as an assistant coach for the Bobcats. He's particularly well-suited to teach and coach our student-athletes, and he'll be managing practices as we transition into a search for the program's next head coach."
Costello indicated that the search for Burnham's replacement begins immediately.
