Cats Make Progress at Cougar Classic

The Bobcats picked up singles victories from Enni Zander and Mirte Van Baelen. Five MSU matches came up short in three-set losses, and the Bobcats saw five sets decided in tiebreakers.
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State women's tennis team continued to make steady progress during its fall season at the Washington State Cougar Classic over the weekend.
The Bobcats picked up singles victories from Enni Zander and Mirte Van Baelen. Five MSU matches came up short in three-set losses, and the Bobcats saw five sets decided in tiebreakers.
"It was a good weekend overall," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "We are getting better in all areas. If we continue to improve competing at this rate, we will be right where we want to be come April.
"We treated the Cougar Classic as a competition where we had something on the line," Reeves added. "It wasn't just trying to get matches in. Instead we treated it as an elimination event. This tournament always has great competition and it's important for our girls to see this level of play because we do have a difficult out of conference schedule. Everyone is looking strong and feeling quite healthy. We're at a good spot right now."
Montana State also picked-up three victories in doubles play, paced by the duo of Linnea Fristam/Caitlin Ward who defeated Idaho's Melissa Huchet/Laura Spataro (UI), 6-1, in the opening round of the Crimson Doubles draw.
