Walker Paces Women’s Tennis at Fall Season Opener

“Annie Walker has been leading the team with her play and enthusiasm on the court,” said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. “After receiving a bye, she had a solid singles win against Idaho State.”
Montana State sophomore Annie Walker paced the Bobcat women's tennis team during the opening round of play at the Bedford Cup hosted by the Air Force Academy on Thursday.
The Las Vegas product received a bye in the opening round, before defeating Idaho State's Hristina Cvetkovic 7-5, 6-3 in the second round. Walker was the only Bobcat to move on to round three.
"Annie Walker has been leading the team with her play and enthusiasm on the court," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "After receiving a bye, she had a solid singles win against Idaho State."
MSU newcomer Linnea Fristam had an impressive Bobcat debut despite falling to Wyoming's Ana Fernandez 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.
In doubles play, the tandem of Sarah Cheverie and Sara Iverson had a solid first round win over Boise State, while Walker and Enni Zander captured two of their three matches on the day.
"I'm pleased with our ladies progression in their play," Reeves said. "From a coaching stand point, we are placing a strong focus on overall preparation, playing with enthusiasm and being intentional with our shot selection. We are in a much better position as a team than one year ago. The team is more mature and their play has improved significantly."
The Bobcats will continue play at the Bedford Cup through Sunday afternoon.
