Bobcats Complete Day One at Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

Montana State improved seven strokes from its first round to its second and sits in 18th place as a team following the first two rounds of the Cowgirl Classic Monday
MARICOPA, Ariz. – Montana State improved seven strokes from its first round to its second and sits in 18th place as a team following the first two rounds of the Cowgirl Classic Monday, April 2, at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
The Bobcats were paced by sophomore Kelly Hooper and senior Jaylee Tait.
Hooper shot consecutive rounds of 1-over-par 73 to finish the day with a 146. She is tied for 16th individually. Tait shot MSU's best round of the day with her second-round even par. Her 148 over two rounds put her in a tie for 29th.
"Kelly and Jaylee played very well," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We got it going as a team in the second round. We hope to see some putts fall tomorrow."
The Bobcats shot a first-round 310 and second-round 303 for a total of 613 strokes at the Wyoming-hosted tournament. Sacramento State leads the team standings with a 566 (297-287), while New Mexico State (580) and Santa Clara (583) follow the Hornets.
Rounding out MSU's lineup are Delaney Elliott, Clare Dittemore and Lilly Navarre. Elliott and Dittemore each carded a 161 over two rounds with each shooting an 80 as their best round. Navarre fired a 78 during the second round and finished a stroke behind her Bobcat teammates at 162.
New Mexico State's Pun Chanachai leads all individuals at 4-under-par 140 (75-65). She is followed by Santa Clara's Kristin Le (141) and three different Sacramento State golfers. Coral Schulz, competing as an individual for MSU, shot a 165 following the first day of action.
Montana State continues play at the Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday in Maricopa. The tournament field tees off for the final round of action at 8:30 a.m. MDT.
