The Bobcats face their largest field of the 2017-18 season when the Montana State golf team takes part in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic from April 2-3 in Maricopa, Ariz., at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
A total of 20 teams are scheduled to participate in the Wyoming-hosted meet beginning on Monday, with seven Big Sky members competing in the two-day tournament. The meet field opens play with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MDT and is highlighted by 36 holes on Monday, followed by another 18 holes on Tuesday with golfers teeing off for their final round of action at 8:30 a.m.
MSU is familiar with the Ak-Chin course that will play at a par 72 and at 6,131 yards. Last season, the Bobcats finished 16th in the team standings after placing 15th the year prior. Then-senior Janelle Reali led the way for MSU by carding a 7-over-par 223 over the course of three rounds.
The Bobcat contingent in Maricopa will feature Kelly Hooper, Delaney Elliott, Jaylee Tait, Clare Dittemore and Lilly Navarre. Coral Schulz will also compete as an individual.
Hooper and Tait have been mainstays atop the individual standings for the Bobcats. Hooper's 75.14 scoring average paces MSU. Tait has five top-20 finishes that tie her with Hooper to go along with her 75.61 scoring average. Elliott (77.71) has the third best stroke average on the team while Dittemore (79.83), Navarre (80.23) and Schulz (81.33) battle for the final two spots on the conference championship team roster.
Montana State has two meets remaining before the team heads back to Boulder City, Nev., for the Big Sky Conference Championship which runs from April 20-22. Results for the Cowgirl Classic will be available throughout the meet with live scores updated on golfstatresults.com.
