Montana State rebounded from a tough first round to complete a solid set of 18 holes and finish the first day of the Battle at the Rock on Monday
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Montana State rebounded from a tough first round to complete a solid set of 18 holes and finish the first day of the Battle at Boulder Creek on Monday, March 5, at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Bobcats shot a first-round 327 as a team, but responded with a 310 in the second round. Montana State's 637 strokes currently places them in fourth with Georgetown leading the team competition with a first-day 604.
"We had a tough first round but we came back in the second," MSU head coach Brittany Basye said. "Delaney (Elliott) and Kelly (Hooper) came back nicely and Jaylee (Tait) had a good first round. Once again, we need to find some consistency. We need to play smarter and learn from our mistakes."
Tait is tied for eighth in the individual standings with a 154. She led the Bobcats in the first round with a 3-over-par 75, then followed that with a 79. Kelly Hooper sits just outside of the top 10 – currently tied for 12th – after accumulating 157 strokes through two rounds. She fired an 82 to start, but completed her next 18 holes with a 75.
Lilly Navarre is third in the standings among Bobcat golfers at 163. Delaney Elliott shot a 76 in the second round, but a tough first round put her at a total of 165. Coral Schulz rounds out the MSU lineup with her 173. Clare Dittemore, who's competing as an individual, also shot a 173.
Eastern Washington's Madalyn Ardueser leads the individual competition with a 149.
"The high numbers have to go," Basye said. "We need to keep learning after every round, from the good and bad. We will see who comes ready to play tomorrow and hope all six show up."
