Bobcats Open Season With Sweep at Al Manuel Northwest Invite

Montana State track and field sent a majority of its squad to Dornblaser Field and swept the field at the Al Manuel Northwest Invitational on Saturday, March 31
MISSOULA, Mont. – Montana State track and field sent a majority of its squad to Dornblaser Field and swept the field at the Al Manuel Northwest Invitational on Saturday, March 31. The Bobcat men defeated Eastern Washington (136-59), Idaho (159-18), Montana (137.50-53.50) and Portland State (148-39). The MSU women topped Eastern Washington (115-87), Idaho (153-13), Montana (110-80) and Portland State (124-62) as well.
The Bobcat men's and women's teams combined for 13 first-place finishes to complete the Invitational sweep.
On the men's side, Kyle Douglass led the way by taking first in the discus (168-03) and shot put (55-02). Douglass paced a Bobcat contingent that took the top three spots in the discus and included Calvin Root (155-06) and Alec Nehring (155-03). Root finished first in the hammer throw with a mark of 199-06 (60.81m) while Nehring also took third in the shot put with a toss of 50-10 (15.49m).
Cameron Carroll, Diego Leon, Mason Storm, Ty Mogan, Noah Martin and Luke Middelstadt also produced first-place showings. Carroll crossed the line in a time of 3:59.91 in the 1,500-meter run and also placed fourth in the 800. His run in the 800 was part of a 2-3-4 MSU finish with Chris Bianchini (1:54.90) leading the way and him being followed by Diego Leon (1:56.14).
Leon doubled up events for the Bobcats and took first in the 5,000 with a time of 15:09.57. Ty Mogan finished runner-up in the event with a time of 15:25.56 to go along with his first-place showing in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:38.00).
Montana State controlled several events at the Al Manuel meet in the men's competition.
Noah Martin (6-08) and Aidan Pedersen (6-04) took the top two spots in the high jump, while Mason Storm (14.90) and Drake Schneider (15.28) achieved the same feat in the 110 hurdles. Finishing in the top five among the 200 standings were Bill Yeager, Jadin Casey and Parker Walton. Luke Middelstadt also earned a first-place finish in the pole vault.
Casey took second in the 400, Christopher Lange finished runner-up in the 400 hurdles, Alex Lewis placed second in the long jump and Kade Van Elswyk got second in his Bobcat debut in the javelin.
McKenna Ramsay, Morgan Evans, Trisha Carlson and Megan Ralstin earned individual victories on the women's side for Montana State.
Carlson (11:05.00) was the top finisher in the 3,000 steeplechase and was followed by Anna French (11:16.00) with the two leading a large Bobcat pack in the event. Ramsay (58.09) took first in the 400, Evans (14.99) placed atop the 100 hurdles and Ralstin (37-02.50) had the farthest leap in the triple jump to represent the Bobcats.
Similar to the men's team, the women's squad had several events they had strong showings in.
MSU's Kelsi Lasota earned runner-up finishes in both the 1,500 and 5,000. Evans had the second-best time in the 100 and was followed by Courtney Stromme. Ahna Kreitinger took second in the 400 hurdles, while Carley Vonheeder also had a runner-up throw in the javelin. The Bobcats also went 3-4-5-6 in the 800 with Maddie Lee pacing the Bobcat pack, while Taylor Buschy took third in the 200.
The Bobcats' women's 4x400 relay of Elisabeth Krieger, Carlson, Kendra Larson and Ahna Kreitinger finished ahead of the field to close out the day with a time of 4:11.71.
Montana State travels to Utah next weekend for the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic. The Bobcats will compete on the campus of Weber State University and the University of Utah on consecutive days beginning on April 6.
