MSU’s Mogan Places 25th, Bobcats Close out Mountain Regional Meet

PROVO, Utah – Redshirt junior Ty Mogan earned Montana State's best finish, and put himself in contention to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet, as the Bobcats completed action at the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships at East Bay Golf Course on Friday.
Mogan narrowly finished within the individual criteria to advance to the NCAA Championships with his 25th-place showing at the regional meet. Mogan finished 10 spots higher than his previous appearance at the Mountain Region Championships in 2016 by crossing the finish line this year with a time of 29 minutes, 57.4 seconds in the men's 10-kilomer race.
The Bobcat runner will find out if he's officially qualified for the meet when the NCAA announces its field of 13 at-large teams and remaining 38 individuals at 3 p.m. MST on Saturday.
The Bobcat men's team placed 11th in the Mountain Region standings with 257 points, its lowest total since its 2013 appearance. Northern Arizona won the team title with 42 points and was followed by BYU (56) and Colorado (71).
Sophomore Collin Buck had his best performance in his second showing at the regional meet. He finished second among Bobcat runners and took 42nd overall with a time of 30:25.4.
Duncan Hamilton, Logan Morley and Cooper West all made their first appearances at the regional meet and contributed to the Bobcats' scoring lineup. Hamilton placed 52nd in a time of 30:34.5, while Morley (30:59.9) and West (31:23.7) finished 61st and 77th, respectively.
MSU senior Anthony Schmalz took 83rd by crossing the line in 31:46.3 and Isaac Schmidt finished 86th in 31:55.8 to round out the MSU men's contingent.
The Bobcat women's squad placed 14th in the team standings of the 6k race with 324 points. New Mexico won the team title with 41 points. Colorado took second with 53 points and BYU placed third with 85.
Senior Kelsi Lasota improved 30 spots from her appearance at last season's meet by taking a team-best 28th. She crossed the finish line in 20:52.5.
Gillian Maness, Layne Oliver and Samantha Kelderman finished 7 seconds apart from one another. Maness took 61st overall with a time of 21:25.0. Oliver followed her with a mark of 21:29.4 to finish 63rd and Kelderman placed 71st with a time of 21:32.8.
Kathleen Glockner and Molly MacDonald also competed for the Bobcats while making their first appearances at regionals. Glockner (22:09.2) placed 101st and Macdonald (23:29.2) finished 128th.
