Cross Country Teams Finish 11th at NCAA Mountain Regionals

Madi Siana, Sam Ells post Montana State’s top finishes in Salt Lake City on Friday
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah --- The Montana State cross country team concluded its 2025 season on Friday, placing 11th in both races at the NCAA Mountain Regionals as Sam Ells and Madi Siana led the way in 42ndand 43rd place, respectively, at the Salt Lake Regional Athletic Complex.
The women's team tallied 322 points in the 6k, finishing second among Big Sky Conference teams at the meet. No. 8 New Mexico and No. 1 BYU tallied 45 and 47 points, respectively, to clinch their automatic qualifications for the NCAA Championships as the race's top-two finishers. No. 21 Northern Arizona (76), No. 17 Colorado (106), and No. 22 Utah (120) rounded out the top-five teams in Salt Lake City.
The men's team followed in the 10k later that morning, posting 302 points. No. 3 New Mexico and No. 10 BYU also earned the automatic qualifiers in the men's race, tallying 37 and 67 points, respectively. No. 8 Northern Arizona (82), No. 6 Colorado (114), and No. 28 Air Force (127) finished third through fifth to wrap up the day at the Regional Athletic Complex.
"The women's team followed up their strong race at conference with another quality race today," Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese said. "Finishing the season with their two best races of the year was not only great for this this year, but a great sign for future years. Sam Ells and Ryan Harrington followed up quality races at conference with strong races again today."
The women's team opened the day in the 6k, with Madi Siana leading the Bobcats across the finish line in 43rdplace. She clocked a time of 21:42.7 to cap off her sophomore season as the Cats' top finisher in four of five meets. Junior Eva Koos posted a time of 22:12.5 to finish second for the Bobcats and 60th overall in the 6k while Hannah Perrin finished close behind in 65th with a time of 22:20.3. Freshman Claire Rutherford posted another points finish with a time of 22:30.4 to finish 72nd, and Hailey Watkins rounded out the top five in 86th, crossing the finish line in 22:46.2.
Sam Ells led the Bobcat men across the finish line in the 10k, placing 42nd with a time of 31:25.5. Big Sky Freshman of the Year Ryan Harrington followed in 54th place, crossing the finish line in 31:59.3 in his first collegiate 10k. Owen Smith was the third Bobcat finisher, posting a time of 32:11.4 to place 60th overall. AJ Ringert and Ben Saelens clocked times of 32:23.9 and 33:10.1 to finish 67th and 81st, respectively, to round out Montana State's scorers in Salt Lake City.

With the conclusion of the NCAA Mountain Regionals, Montana State's 2025 cross country season comes to an end. The Bobcats will open their 2025-26 indoor track & field season in December, with a full schedule to be announced in the coming days.
