Creel Smith wins at the bottom ladder spot for an MSU singles victory

Senior transfer Creel Smith won his first match as a Bobcat, but Montana State's men's tennis team fell at BYU 6-1 Saturday.

Smith overcame a comeback by BYU's David Ball at No. 6 singles. MSU's fifth-year senior transfer won the first set 6-4, but Ball bounced back with a 6-0 win in the second set. Smith rebounded to capture the third set 10-7 for his first win at Montana State, and the first singles victory by a Bobcat this season. The Cats dropped each of the other five singles matches.

Montana State falls to 0-2 on the season, while BYU is now 2-0. MSU's next action is at Gonzaga on February 3 at 1 pm MT.
