Bobcat Women Face Two Match Weekend
4/6/2017 5:14:00 PM | Women's Tennis
“This is a huge weekend to reset our team mindset and the tone for competing,” said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. “It is exciting to be back on court putting it on the line.”
The Montana State women's tennis team will face two crucial Big Sky Conference matches this weekend. The Bobcats will travel to the University of North Dakota on Friday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. (MST) in Grand Forks, before turning around for Bozeman where it will host Weber State on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
"This is a huge weekend to reset our team mindset and the tone for competing," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "It is exciting to be back on court putting it on the line."
Montana State (9-3, 5-0) last played on March 12 when it defeated Idaho State 5-2 in the BATC. The 26-day hiatus allowed the Bobcats to overcome injuries heading into its tilt with North Dakota (7-14, 4-6) at Choice Health & Fitness in the Sunflake City.
"We have been off competition since Spring Break," Reeves said. "The time away has seemed very long, but it has given us the opportunity to get a little healthier and re-focus on our team goals. The team is ready for the final stretch."
Montana State has won four straight matches and seven of its last eight outings. The Bobcats have been paced by freshman Chloe Goyette, who has a team-best 10-2 overall mark and 5-0 Big Sky ledger. Twin sisters Naomi and Wanda Holopainen, along with junior Angelina Philippova are all 4-1 in league action.
In doubles play, the Bobcats have been led by Naomi Holopainen and Jessica Brycki with a 6-0 mark, while Goyette and senior Laura Middel have also played solidly posting a 5-1 record at the top spot.
"We are now full blast for the remainder of the season with six matches in three weeks," Reeves said. "It's a compact travel schedule and not much recovery time. We have experienced this a number of times this year and our team has handled it well."
