Montana State women's golf looks to improve on its opening tournament of the spring slate when the Bobcats begin play at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Saturday, March 11, on the GCU golf course in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Bobcats will send five golfers to the meet on the Lopes' home golf course. MSU will be competing against nine other squads in its second of five spring meets ahead of the Big Sky Conference Championship in Boulder City, Nev., from April 23-25.
"We're ready to get back to competition and play the GCU golf course," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We need to focus on our plans and drop some putts for birdies. The key is going to be staying consistent and in game mode for all 54 holes. I feel confident that this team will compete hard and give their all until the last putt drops on Sunday."
Junior Jaylee Tait, freshman Delaney Elliott, senior Janelle Reali and freshmen Kelly Hooper and Coral Schulz make up MSU's lineup.
Tait led MSU by finishing in a tie for eighth with a 5-over-221 over three rounds at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz., last weekend. Elliott tied MSU's best round of the season with a 70 in the third round and tied for 11th individually. Reali also earned a tie for 20th to be MSU's second-best finisher in the team's scoring lineup for the tournament.
The GCU Championship Golf Course is a par-72, 6,143-yard course. The tournament is set to begin Saturday with an 8 p.m. shotgun start and will conclude Sunday with a final round of 18 holes.
