Noah Martin earns highest point total in heptathlon in collegiate debut
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State freshman Noah Martin finished atop the final heptathlon standings as the MSU Multis Meet concluded Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Martin began the day in third place and jumped to the lead thanks to a couple of scratches. The Spokane, Wash., native completed his best performance on the second day of the meet in the pole vault. He topped out with a vault of 14-07.25 which was good for second place. He eventually finished with 4,810 points in his collegiate debut.
The Griz were led by Charlie Bush who finished with 4,792 points. Bush earned the best pole vault of the day by reaching 15-03.
MSU freshman Caleb Neth also completed the heptathlon Tuesday and earned 3,937 points over a two-day span. His best finish of the day was a third-place showing in the 1000 as he crossed the line in 2 minutes, 54.37 seconds.
Both MSU senior Mason Storm and Montana's Brendan Thurber-Blaser were in first and second, respectively, heading into the second day of action but didn't figure into the heptathlon final results.
Storm began the day by earning first place with a time of 8.54 in the 60-meter hurdles. He also took fourth in the pole vault by reaching a mark of 12-07.50, but sat out the 1000. Thurber-Blaser competed in the 60 hurdles before sitting out the final two events.
Montana State makes its team debut at the MSU Invitational inside Worthington Arena on Friday. Field events are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. with races scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
