Bobcat Women's Tennis Team Finds Success at Cougar Classic

The Montana State women’s tennis team opened its fall season at the Washington State Cougar Classic, last weekend in Pullman.
The Montana State women's tennis team opened its fall season at the Washington State Cougar Classic, last weekend in Pullman. Student-athletes were placed in three different brackets and the Bocbats came away with on overall mark of 28-15 in singles action.
Singles play was highlighted by freshman Chloe Goyette. The Yakima, Washington product placed third in the Grey Draw, while senior Naomi Holopainen won the consolation title in the Crimson bracket.
Holopainen and senior Laura Middel combined to place third in doubles action, while sister Wanda Holopainen paired with Shelby Cerkovnik to win their consolation draw. MSU's third duo of Goyette and Laura Mary posted a 3-1 overall mark.
"Our team has made huge improvements over one year ago," said MSU second-year head coach Jon Reeves. "The returners have made tremendous strides in their abilities and competitiveness. Our new kids are outstanding and have made an immediate impact on the team dynamic and raising the level of play. They are open to learning and have the desire to compete hard and improve."
MSU will play at the Idaho State Invitational next weekend in Pocatello.
